Thank you to our friend Harrie for sharing his story and his continued commitment to bring the fight to cancer. Harrie's efforts at WCPG & AKTIV Against Cancer are an inspiration, and we are incredibly grateful for his support of LWDF.
CANCER COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LIFE. I WENT FROM BEING A 22 YEAR OLD SENIOR IN COLLEGE TO A CANCER PATIENT GETTING UP AT DAWN TO RECEIVE DAILY 7AM RADIATION TREATMENTS IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET TO CLASS LATER IN THE DAY.
CANCER HUMBLED ME. AS COMPLICATED AND FEARFUL AS IT CAN BE, I THINK IT SIMPLIFIED THINGS FOR ME. EVERYTHING THAT DIDN'T INVOLVE GOING BACK TO THE HOSPITAL FOR SURGERY OR TREATMENT WAS ALL I COULD ASK FOR. I STILL TRY TO LIVE BY THAT RULE 13 YEARS LATER.
MY BROTHER RICH, WHO WAS A 4TH YEAR MEDICAL STUDENT AT THE TIME OF MY DIAGNOSIS, CAME WITH ME TO EVERY DOCTORS APPOINTMENT, SURGERY AND TREATMENT. IT WAS HIS IDEA FOR US TO RUN THE NYC MARATHON 5 MONTHS AFTER MY LAST TREATMENT. WE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE HAND IN HAND. THE NEXT DAY I MADE SURE GO BACK TO THE HOSPITAL AND SHOW MY MEDAL TO MY RADIATION ONCOLOGIST AND THERAPISTS (PICTURED BELOW).
I'M GRATEFUL FOR THOSE WHO HELPED ME DURING MY TREATMENT AND PROUD TO HELP THOSE IN NEED TODAY. I AM EXCITED FOR AKTIV AGAINST CANCER AND LWDF TO PARTNER IN SUPPORT OF THE LEE JONES LAB.
